"Everybody’s favourite expletive-strewn melodic noise duo, Fuck Buttons, release their eagerly anticipated sophomore LP, 'Tarot Sport', in October. Before that their new single, a trimmed-down version of the track 'Surf Solar', reveals the pair to be more in thrall to techno than ever before.

The video preserves the band's carefully-constructed visual identity: directed by Fuck Button Andy Hung, it sees a pool of penguins mutate into Rorschach-like imagery that is gradually overwhelmed by a kaleidoscope of hypnotic lighting effects. Like the music, it's simultaneously disorientating and utterly compelling."

" In a society where Radiohead are the new Led Zeppelin, it takes effort to alienate; apparently though Health have it down. Called ‘pretentious noise’ by some, the apes who mock it miss the point. Health aren’t breaking any real avant-garde ground; rather they’re shaping the doom metal of Sunn O))) and the noise of groups like Talibam! into comprehensible pop shapes. While ‘Perfect Skin’ first appears as little more than a pulsing scream, there’s a dense melody within, more like Sonic Youth than ‘Metal Machine Music’. ‘Triceratops’ is no more challenging than most techno and, though there are the surreal, unfamiliar chiming horrors of, say, ‘Heaven’ in here, there is also the satanic portent of ‘Lost Time’ – recognisable to anyone who’s heard Handel’s ‘Messiah’ (trust us, you have) or Godspeed. It’s a challenging, loud vision of rock yes, but it’s not nearly as tough as it at first seems. "

..." If you believe everything you read, The XX may just be the 'Best New Band of 2009'; but hyperbole aside, the young London quartet have certainly opened their account in imposing fashion. 'XX' is an exercise in the 'less is more' approach, yet is rampant with minimalist beats, the occasional pinging guitar riff and weighty basslines that create a warm duvet of sound. Vocal duties are shared between Romy Madley-Croft's breathy, slurred warble and Oliver Sim's moody croon, his shades of Stuart Staples adding extra character to what is probably the most atmospheric album you'll hear all year.

Inversely, there's not a whole lot going on musically. The modus operandi of the four 20-year-olds seems to be to entrance the listener with repetition, although they do excel at hiding melodies, simplistic grooves and hypnotic beats just under the surface of their songs. 'VCR' is particularly mesmerising and terribly '80s in production and delivery, making it easy to see why this band have generated comparisons with Young Marble Giants, while 'Heart Skipped a Beat', 'Basic Space' and 'Night Time' are all effortlessly cool offerings.

The only disadvantage with creating an album that simmers and bubbles without ever exploding, is that it becomes slightly bogged down in its wilful opaqueness at times. This is undoubtedly an impressive debut, but perhaps even more exciting is the thought of what The XX might do next."

Internationally revered French electronic pop duo AIR, Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, will release their fifth studio album Love 2 on October 5th (October 6th in the US), the follow-up to 2007s acclaimed Pocket Symphony, and the first production to spring to life from their very own state-of-the-art recording facility Atlas Studio.
A viral single Do The Joy will be made available digitally on July 6th, followed by a formal single release for the summery pop anthem Sing Sang Sung on August 25th.
